Kurôzu-Cho (黒渦ー町) is a cursed town built on top of the city of Spirals. It is the main setting for the entire manga. Most of the characters are either residents of Kurôzu-Cho or outsiders who are trapped there.

Appearance[]

Manga[]

Kurôzu-Cho is a relatively small and isolated town, between the mountains and the sea. A gigantic black spiral made of the ash and smoke of cremated dead bodies can often be seen over the town.

The town has its own high school, overlooking the town on a hill. It also has its own hospital with a maternity ward and at least 1 surgeon on staff.

The train station runs through the center of town and appears to be the default mode of travel for residents to nearby cities. Many commuters at the train station wear business suits, suggesting Kurôzu-Cho's office workers must commute elsewhere for work.

The town appears to have a low rate of car ownership, with most of its vehicles congregating around the central train station. The town can be accessed by a road tunnel through the mountains, but this is cut off after the spiral takes over the town.

In the later chapters, Kurôzu-Cho is reduced to rubble by six successive hurricanes, leaving only a couple row houses and the lighthouse standing, until the entire town is rebuilt from the rubble into a giant spiral labyrinth and the Dragon Fly Pond rebuilt to lead down on an extremely long line of stairs.

Trivia[]

  • The name Kurôzu-Cho has several translations, to which among them are "Dark Town, Closed Town, Black Spiral Town, Maelstrom Town".
